Skirts & Skylines

Lexie Fancy Dinner

I definitely don't go to fancy dinners often, but when I do get to it's awesome because I love dressing up! This Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress is by far my favorite dress in my closet. It gives such a nice shape and I love the unique print and color combination. The darker colors give the outfit a great evening finish. To complete my look, I paired it with my suede clutch from Target and these black heeled sandals from Report Signature.

This outfit would be perfect for a date night because it's very feminine and even a bit sexy, but it's still appropriate for a dinner with family.

Emily D's Favorite Spot: The New York Public Library

lifestyle

Whenever I need a place to write a paper for school, read, or even just have some quiet time I always go to the New York Public Library. It's definitely a different environment from the usual the hustle and bustle of a coffee shop, which helps me to stay focused. The NYPL has various branches around NYC but I find the main branch on 5th Ave and 40th Street to have such a beautiful atmosphere. They offer many quiet reading rooms where you can settle and get work done, or even the seating around the outside of the library offers a great place to read or just people watch while getting some fresh air.
Although the main branch of the NYPL mostly houses rare books and other antiquities there is another library branch right across 5th Ave where you can find an infinite number of books and CDs to check out! I definitely look forward to exploring the other branches that the library has to offer, but nothing is quite as elegant as the main branch right in midtown.

Emily Brunch

Nothing quite says New York like Sunday brunch. Depending on the restaurant bunches can be pretty casual to very fancy. And while we all want to look fab while getting that perfect corner patio seat, we need to make sure our outfit will be able to take the August heat.

My dress from BCBG Generation is perfectly light enough so it wouldn't feel clingy on me while being outside. The very pale lavender of this dress makes it great for a refreshing morning out. There is also a pretty open back so if need-be I could easily pull up my hair to keep cool.

Having a block heel sandal was a must-have for this summer in the city! The block heel makes them very comfortable and easy to walk in (a little cheat for girls who want to be able to wear heels around the city). To tie in the camel from my shoes I added my clutch from Express that also has a camel panel to tie the whole look together!

Beach Bag Essentials

beach bag

One of the best parts of the summer is definitely taking day trips to the beach! These are just a few things we like to make sure we have in our beach bag:

Sunscreen: It seems like a no-brainer, but so many girls forget how important sunscreen really is. We all love getting a nice tan, but you still need to apply sunscreen, and preferably one with at least 30 SPF.

A good book: Something to keep you busy when you aren't dipping your feet in the ocean!

Headphones: Everyone likes to listen to music while they are responsibly tanning!

Water: Because it's important to stay hydrated in the heat.

Snacks: Food by the beach tends to be pretty expensive, so bringing your own snacks is always a good idea.

Showing Skin: Shoulders

Like Claire and Emily said, showing skin is all about balance. I decided to highlight my decolletage area by wearing this strapless shirt from American Eagle. Showing off delicate features like your collarbone and shoulders can really make you feel feminine and sexy without exposing too much.

I balanced it out by wearing my favorite flare jeans from the brand Kiind Of Jeans. They keep the outfit looking put together and classy. Wearing shorts or a mini skirt might just be too much skin.

This series either taught you that less is more, or that you can still look appropriate when exposing skin. Either way, all you have to remember is that balance is key!
